Abbi Love is from Aurora, Indiana and began taking piano lessons when she was just five years old and started writing and recording songs when she was nine years old. That's when she realized that music was her passion! She just released her debut single “Keys and Ivories” and we had an exlcusive chance to speak with her about it!
batteryPOP: You just released your debut single, can you tell us what the inspiration behind it was?
Abbi Love: The inspiration for "Keys and Ivories" was most definitely about my piano who I nicknamed "Thomas." The song is basically about losing something you love and trying to get it back. For me, this song is basically 'What if I lost music forever? How would I feel?'
batteryPOP: Will you be releasing an official music video for it? If so, when will it drop?
Abbi Love: I have a lyrical video for "Keys and Ivories" but, as of right now, there is not a plan for a music video. However, you never know what the future holds.
batteryPOP: At what age did you realize singing was what you wanted to do?
Abbi Love: I have always had a burning passion for music, but when I was eight years old, I realized that I wanted to make a career out of it. I began writing songs, recording in studios, and performing in school talent shows.
batteryPOP: If you could collaborate with any musician right now who would it be?
Abbi Love: If I could collaborate with anyone, I would want to collaborate with Lennon and Maisy Stella. They have old souls and grew up with music like I did. I think we would work together really well.
batteryPOP: Where is your favorite place that you’ve played a show and where is your dream place to play?
Abbi Love: My favorite place I've ever sang at was this local music jamboree with fireworks that I performed at for the past couple of years. I just loved listening to the local artists and then performing in front of hundreds of people. My dream show would probably be at Madison Square Garden or the Grand Ole Opry.
batteryPOP: Your debut single is called “Keys & Ivories” and we know you play piano, do you play any other instruments? If so, do you have a favorite?
Abbi Love: Piano is my main instrument, but I also play guitar, and I played baritone in band class. I think that piano is my favorite because it comes most naturally to me.
"My advice would be to not give up on your dream no matter what."
batteryPOP: If you can give one piece of advice to up and coming singers what would it be?
Abbi Love: My advice would be to not give up on your dream no matter what. Some people may be hard on you, but you should always stick with music and it will pay off in the end.
batteryPOP: Who were your favorite artists growing up?
Abbi Love: My favorite artists growing up were Patsy Cline and Carrie Underwood.
batteryPOP: Who is your favorite artist right now?
Abbi Love: My favorite artist right now is Taylor Swift because I love that she is a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist.
batteryPOP: It takes guts to put yourself out there as a singer. What made you start putting videos on the internet?
Abbi Love: I decided to start putting my videos on the internet because I knew that at the time, it was the next step to become noticed. You can be the best songwriter and singer in the world, but no one would know if you don't share your music with others.
batteryPOP: Was it weird that so many people would now be able to hear your songs?
Abbi Love: It is so surreal to me that so many people can hear my songs. A few strangers have actually seen me in public and said to me that they have heard my songs, and it's just so crazy to me.
batteryPOP: If you had to choose one flavor of ice cream to eat for the rest of your life what would it be?
Abbi Love: I would choose birthday cake flavor because vanilla and chocolate are so basic and then every day would be my birthday!
batteryPOP: If you were a superhero, what would your superhero name be? What would be your super power?
Abbi Love: If I were a superhero, I think my name would be Piano Girl, and my power would be to turn any object into a piano just in case someone wanted me to break out in a song and there was no piano around.
