TOP 5 WEIRD THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN SENT INTO OUTER SPACE

There are a lot of mysteries about what is in outer space, and NASA sends shuttles to explore and discover what is out there. But when astronauts aren’t exploring, they are bringing weird things of their own.

  1. 5 Astronaut Alan Shepard brought golf balls and a golf club aboard the Apollo 14 so he could be the only (and, therefore, best) athlete in the entire history of the moon.

  2. 4 A Buzz Lightyear doll boarded the Discovery in 2008 and stayed in space for over a year—to infinity, and beyond!

  3. 3 When preparing for his trip on the Endeavor, one astronaut packed dirt from Yankee Stadium, because no mission to space is complete without a bag of dirt in your pocket.

  4. 2 To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, an original lightsaber prop was sent to the International Space Station in 2007. Of course, it was presented to the astronauts by someone in a Chewbacca costume.

  5. 1 Lego figurines are currently on the Juno Voyager, destined to reach Jupiter in 2016, officially making them the most out-of-this-world toy.
